The changes in moods of design
8. June 2008In 2008 the web is moving quickly away from the roots. The startas a keybpooard driven message system is gone. Looking backwards, just ten years ago, many sites just had some simple text with simple fonts
like Arial or Times Roman on their pages. The lack of bandwidth lead to minimalistic
web design, using only few fonts and graphic elements.
This basic concept has changed immediately in an extremly quick way. Thousands of colours, a large variety of various fonts, multimedia - the web became a true „war place“, where publishers are searching
for visitors at nearly any price. Videos seem to be the hype of next ecade.
The ranking position and keyword search became more valuable than the content nowadays. A keyword search on an item like „fonts“ or „health insurance“ will result in a flood of aggressive
popups, overloaded Adsense advertising and stupid nonsense. This misuse of the
search machines like Google only for keyword search is at the end resulting
in much lesser impact values. The cheapest rubbish with lots of ads found on
many sites today is annoying.
But what is the cure? Are there any alternatives? How should the net develop?
It is not like a hair transplant, where the hair grows after suffering from hair loss … We need a doctor, a good surgeon which is cutting of all nonsense available. One of these barfooted doctors from the bush. Yes, the web should come back to its roots. Straight forward designs, not too many fonts, a high value
of content: Soon a benefit becomes visible.
One example for demonstration: A simple design with same colours can make a
normal free web directory outstanding from the many others. Whether a site aboutesthetic surgery or a place with nice fonts – in many cases a more conservative
approach is favourable. So the concept should be: concentrate on usability instead
of overloading. You see one company which was very successful with every keyword
search you do: Google.
